A Model of TFP
نویسنده
چکیده
This paper proposes an aggregative model of total factor productivity (TFP) in the spirit of Houthakker (1955—1956). It considers a frictional labor market where production units are subject to idiosyncratic shocks and jobs are created and destroyed as in Mortensen and Pissarides (1994). An aggregate production function is derived by aggregating across micro production units in equilibrium. The level of TFP is explicitly shown to depend on the underlying distribution of shocks as well as on all the characteristics of the labor market as summarized by the job-destruction decision. The model is also used to study the effects of labor-market policies on the level of measured TFP. ∗I thank Gadi Barlevy, Marco Bassetto, Jeffrey Campbell, Xavier Gabaix, Nobu Kiyotaki, Erzo G. J. Effects of R&D spending and Spill-Over on Agricultural TFP in Iran
Investing in research and development spending (R&D) affects total factor productivity (TFP).Recently new theories of economic growth have emphasized the relationship between R&D and TFPand also identified a number of channels through which a country’s R&D affects TFP of its tradepartner. This study seeks to estimate the effect of agricultural R&D and education spending and someother factors on...
متن کاملThe Analysis of the Effects of Domestic and Foreign Investment in R&D on Agricultural TFP in Iran
Nowadays, agricultural R&D provides new and developed technologies to create modern agricultural producing methods. During recent years, improving agricultural productivity is affected by not only domestic R&D investments but also foreign countries R&D investments. Nowadays, according to new growth models, R&D is the base of productivity. Recent economic theories consider agricultural research ...
متن کاملThe Role of Human Capital and R&D in Total Factor Productivity in the Mining Sector
Promoting Total Factor Productivity (TFP) is one of the methods to improve the competitiveness in the mining sector. Even so, it is of great importance to find a practical solution for productivity improvement. In this study, value added was measured by an innovative method based on the Divisia quantity index for seven mineral activities for the period 1994-2016. The results of calculating TFP ...
متن کاملTFP Growth and its Determinants: Nonparametrics and Model Averaging∗
Total Factor Productivity (TFP) accounts for a sizable proportion of the income differences across countries. Two challenges remain to researchers aiming to explain these differences: on the one hand, TFP growth is hard to measure empirically; on the other hand, model uncertainty hampers consensus on its key determinants. This paper combines a non-parametric measure of TFP growth with Bayesian ...
متن کاملتحلیل اثرات عوامل نهادی بر رشد بهره وری کل عوامل در اقتصاد ایران با استفاده از مدل فضا حالت
The number of factors affecting total factor productivity has been increasing far from those which considered in growth models. So, institutional factors have been attracting strong attention of researchers. This paper aims at investigating the effects of these institutional factors together with traditional factors on TFP growth during 1971-2007. For this purpose, we present a State-Spac...
متن کاملDecomposition of Total Factor Productivity Growth of Pistachio Production in Rafsanjan Region of Iran
The stochastic frontier production model is one of the most used ways to estimate efficiency and productivity. The purpose of this paper was to decompose the sources of total factor productivity (TFP) growth into technological progress, changes in technical efficiency and changes in economies of scale. In this paper, we also used Divisia index in order to estimate production function. A random ...
